SLOUGH 3RDXI
VS
WINDSOR 3RDXI
SATURDAY JUNE 21ST
SLOUGH 3RD XI 272 - 5 DECLARED
WINDSOR 3RDXI 155 ALL OUT
SLOUGH WON BY 117 RUNS
MATCH REPORT
Windsor travelled the short distance to close neighbours Slough on
Saturday and were put to the sword by a swashbuckling display of batting.
Opting to bat first, Slough accumulated a colossal 272 off only 48 overs as
Windsor's bowlers suffered a severe case of meltdown in the summer heat.
Windsor made a couple of initial breakthroughs as young debutant Ollie
Smith took a fine low catch behind the stumps and Kevin Clifford pulled off
a stunning one handed slip catch. Things were looking promising for the
Royalists as Slough were 15-2. Thereafter, the runs flowed like champagne
at Royal Ascot. Despite numerous attempts to cork the flow, it soon turned
into a torrent and Windsor made their weary way to tea facing a formidable
272 - 5.
Despite a positive response, Windsor lost wickets on a regular basis
and were never in the race. Rob Dawson (30), Damian Bradbury (42) and Andy
Wigley (29) all attempted to push Windsor to a respectable total, but they
were ultimately soundly beaten by a superior Slough team.
The performances of the youngsters, Ollie Smith & Umer Malik, were huge
bonuses on a day when Windsor's shortcomings were cruelly exposed by a
ruthless Slough XI.
